Spotlight On: Kensington

October 5, 2016

It's possible that no other neighbourhood so aptly represents Canada as a Cultural Mosaic.  With an eclectic mix of culinary experiences ranging from Jamaican jerk chicken, to freshly fried churros at the Latin American food market, not to mention an international selection of cheeses from local fromageries, one could argue you needn't ever leave the four blocks of Kensington!

Street vendors and shop owners alike spill over the sidewalks with fresh produce, incense, spices and treats representative of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and beyond.  You'd be forgiven for forgetting you're in downtown Toronto with the medley of sounds and smells creating a sensory experience like no other.

On the off chance food isn't enough to make you a believer, perhaps the shopping is what will hook you. Vintage and thrifty finds a plenty can be found at any of the boutique second hand-shops littered throughout Kensington Market.

Regardless though of your preferences, be it shopping, eating, or something else entirely, the kaleidoscopic homes, fantastically bright street art and graffiti gives Kensington a feel of whimsy and fantasy that's irresistibly enchanting. Like you've fallen through the rabbit hole and found yourself in Wonderland.  And honestly, who wouldn't love that for a Sunday afternoon?
