Yeah Yeahs Pizza Makes Its Debut in Toronto

November 23, 2017

Move over Dominos; there is a new pizza joint in town! Located across the street from the Summerhill subway station and beside the bustling Boxcar Social at 1210 Yonge Street you will find Yeah Yeahs.  What was formally Clocktower Bar is now a fun and bright space with bold reds and pizza slice silhouettes painted on the walls. It’s an inviting space to chow down on some za with friends or grab a quick slice solo. The staff is friendly and may even challenge you to a round of Mortal Combat on the Mini Super Nintendo in the dining area.

Shortly after opening their doors on November 13, electrical issues caused some pizza oven setbacks. I’m happy to report they are now back up and running and although they may have a few kinks to work out, this new pizza place has great potential.

If you’ve spent some time in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia the name Yeah Yeahs is likely familiar. This popular pizza joint, started by a Dean Petty who is a Halifax expat and pro surfers, is praised for its garlic fingers covered in mozzarella and garlic butter and served with donair sauce ($17). Following a similar formula, Yeah Yeahs is here to spread the word of pizza! Don’t get too excited just yet though, for the moment they only have ranch and marinara dipping sauces, but they promise to have donair and other delicious dips in the coming weeks!

A slice, caesar or arugula and mixed grain salad and an iced tea will set you back less than $14. But why not live a little and enjoy a beer or glass of wine with your pizza when you dine in. They offer a small selection of adult beverages that will undoubtedly pair perfectly with your pie.

Choose from five signature thin crust 18” pies ($20-$25), or build your own. Gluten free crusts are available for 12” pies for $3 less. Some noteworthy toppings include roasted mushrooms, fior di latte and of course donair sauce (coming soon!), along with many other traditional toppings.  If you are simply looking for a quick bite, they have rotating pies just waiting to be devoured one slice at a time. For optimal freshness, and to ensure ooey gooey cheesiness, I recommended diving into an entire pizza pie made to order. No judgment here, promise!

In theory, Yeah Yeahs should do well in the Summerhill neighbourhood. With overwhelming support in their first week, they are selling out of pizza before closing time; keep an eye on their Instagram, yeahyeahspizzato for updates. They are serving up fresh pizza from 11 am to 10 pm Monday – Wednesday, until 11 pm Thursday – Saturday, and until 8 pm on Sundays.

Yeah Yeahs is a partnership with Boxcar Social, and perhaps the best way to describe the new trendy pizza spot is if Dominos and Teroni had a love child… well, you get the idea.
